When this project rolled out, I was excited to start a project that could go any direction I want it to go. I was interested in this project because I didn't have anything holding me back. When our class walked up to Twin Buttes I liked how in one of the houses we went to was made mostly out of recycled materials I liked the idea of not cutting down a whole forest for one house. Sustainable design in my own words is a way to make your design last. To make it last you need to have the right materials and build your design in a way that will keep it in the cycle. The interviews I completed with my peers showed me that students like an outdoor spot to learn. Almost all of the interviews I did showed me that our students need an outdoor learning spot. So that is why we made an owl box to help support the outdoor needs How I took advantage of all of freedom Is looked at it like there were endless possibilities and started to research I was looking into some sort of house for birds and I wanted a flower garden on the top but a birdhouse is too small to have a garden on top so then we switched to an owl box because it’s bigger so it has room for the flower garden. In the physical construction of my project I accomplished making the latch at the bottom, the roof, cutting out the entrance, I painted welcome all owls and all of the base colors. Throughout this project, I grew in collaboration and adaptability. At the beginning of this project when I had my idea for the owl box I didn't want anybody else to help me because I thought they would not do it right or just get in my way but now looking back there is no way that I could have made the owl box without my group. The skills I need to grow in to be the best project based learner I can be is adaptability because if I don't like a project then I'm not going to do my best work and I need to be able to but in my best effort into all of my projects. Success at the beginning of this project looked like our owl box 100% completed and in a tree. My idea of success is still the same but I feel like I have grown as a group member. If I were to give advice to a student who has never done this project before I would say that you would need to manage your time, stay working and do your best work. |
